Southeast. After Acadia fell into British hands in 1713, the Acadians were eventually deported, starting in 1755. Many of them fled to New Brunswick where communities re-formed, especially in the north and east of the province.<\/p>\n<p>In the second half of the 19th century, Acadian nationalism emerged with the founding of the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 nationale l&#8217;Assomption (now the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 nationale de l&#8217;Acadie), a French-language college in the village of Memramcook, and a French-language newspaper. The 20th century saw the creation of Francophone school boards and health services, the Universit\u00e9 de Moncton and the Festival acadien de Caraquet.
